Newsreader cross platform application News360 2.0 version launched today, this is a major update that introduces their new personalization features. News Reader now learns from your activities on the social Web services, including Facebook, Twitter, Google Reader and Evernote, in order to provide you with stories that match your interests.
But unlike some of its competitors, that there are currently many, News360 uses semantic analysis to deliver the most important news of the day, including stories about your favorite topics from your favorite sources.
Semantic kernel learns from your actions
Semantic foundations of News360 application that runs on the iPad, Android, Windows phone, PlayBook and now Web, are a key a differentiator for this application. Previously, the company used these smart algorithms to surface the most important news in both the United States, world, politics, business, tech, crime, sports, arts, etc.
But now, this same technology is used to better personalize their own news reading experience. There are about 700 000 different organizations known for their News360 semantic engine, and explains the News360 Executive Director Roman Karachinsky, everyone is typically 5-10 "persistent" interests. These interests are automatically discovered for you by the application, after venturing into social activism.
To determine what these interests, the application does not simply pull from the same network, or one set of data, like your "likes" on Facebook, or your Twitter Favorites, for example-he looks at everything ... given permission, of course.
In addition to Facebook likes the application reads data Facebook profile, sees what you comment and share and analyze how you interact with content. On Twitter he looks at your bio, your lists, your tweets and Favorites. On Google Reader, he knows that you share, you are the star that you read and clicked through to. And Evernote, it looks at which web clips you saved, especially those related to the news.
In addition to personalization-News360 makes aggregation too
Personalization not only trick News360's, this is only for the last of them. The application name is derived from its main selling point: "360-degree" view of news. This means that News360 is you aggregated news coverage from several news agencies, allowing you to move from one story to another for a full understanding of the topic. It also allows you to view the news through photos, which further Palor trick than practical.
As a voracious consumer of information however, the "360 degrees" has a certain appeal for me — despite its current implementation. This is by using the «360 degrees» submission to the app, it's just that I wasn't all that impressed with the design. When up against power News readers like Flipboard, for example, which must be one of the most elegant news reading experience ever for the iPad, there has to be so much attention to exterior design as the geeky crunching data Bots behind the scenes, I feel.
Above: what is the font?!
In addition, Flipboard relentless technology it acquired from semantic startup known as Ellerdale to improve their own personalization and an "smartnesss." and Flipboard co-founder Mike McCue told me recently that update core Personalization nearing app soon.
With this in mind he could not come to choose between the data (News360) and design (Flipboard) in General, this can be a choice between data … or data and design. And in this battle, I'm not sure News360 could win.
News360 is a small, privately held company dedicated to help people collect and experience personalized news. News360 main product is its mobile news platform based on the top of its aggregation ...
Flipboard is digital social magazine, which brings together the Web reference from your social circle, i.e., Twitter and Facebook and displays the contents of the journal form on the iPad.
